Desert Days

For Labor Day Weekend, my parents drove all the way from Florida to visit with us and see our new home! It was wonderful to get that time with them, and we did our best to show them some of the best things Southern Arizona has to offer.

We started with a trip to Saguaro National Park to see all of the beautiful cacti. It truly was a desert forest, and absolutely breathtaking. Just seeing the rows and rows of Saguaros filling the flat lands in the valleys and climbing all the way up the mountains in the distance... You can't get that view anywhere else in the world. Some of them were small, and some were over 10 feet tall!

We also went to Tombstone! It was really nice, and a lot less crowded than I thought it would be. We were able to see a couple museums, watch a triple-shootout reenactment, tour an art gallery, do some shopping, and have a nice meal. We bought cowboy hats, which was fitting for the day.

Another thing we were able to do was have dinner at Pinnacle Peak in Tucson. This was an event of it's own! The restaurant is in a cute little mini-town with fun old-timey shops, gunfights, and more. You could spend a whole day there just trying to take it all in. We were there at night, but there are carousels and other fun things to do with kids and families.

Seasonal ABC's

One of my goals this year was to finish this little series designed by Lizzie Kate. I finished the first one (Christmas) at the end of 2025, but the other three were stitched and finished exclusively in 2026.

I was wrestling with the idea of finishing these in a way to switch them out each season via magnets or something, but ended up just getting four matching frames and framing them all separately. This way, I feel like they are completely interchangeable whether I have them sitting on a table, counter, dresser, or even hanging on the wall.

I stitched all of them on 28 count even-weave that I coffee/tea dyed by myself. I used all DMC floss, and did change some of the colors for each pattern, and while I have somehow lost my paper for the Christmas one, here are the DMC colors I switched for the other three seasons:

Spring
Instead of 3687, I used 3326; and instead of 3853, I used 741.

Summer
Instead of 987, I used 3051; and instead of 815, I used 326.

Autumn
This one, I changed every color... in order from top to bottom on th chart - 936, 434, 3363, 3776, and 721.
